Peggy's Cove, NS

we traveled the coastline of St. Margaret's Bay to Peggy's Cove. This community has such a rugged coastline. It was AWESOME! this community began with six fishermen. They had been fishing St Margaret's Bay for years , and this cove offered then close proximity to the fish, a safe place to land their catches, and protection from the waves. So they petitioned the Nova Scotia government for the right to settle here. In 1811, the province issued the first land grant of 800 acres to these fishermen and their families and the community of Peggy's Cove was born. the population peaked at 300 by the beginning of the 20th century. Wondering who Peggy was and why this cove was named for her. It may be the nickname for Margaret as it sits in the mouth of st. Margaret's Bay. yet some will tell you a tale of a young girl named Margaret who, after being rescued from a shipwreck settled here and fell in love with one of her rescuers. eventually the cove became known as Peggy's Cove. The coastline landscape is phenomenal as it was formed during the most recent ice age about 20,000 years ago. After carving out the cove and smoothing this 380 million year old granite bedrock, the glaciers melted, leaving behind a landscape similar to Canada's arctic region.
We have had downpouring of rain all afternoon and evening. just relaxing after having hotdogs for our MOD.
