We were invited to join Pete and Jean today for a large family gathering. We contributed stuffed mushrooms and pecan/coconut pie. Lots of nice people and lots of great food.

Leavenworth, Washington

Bruce and I headed to Leavenworth, Washington today. We love this Bavarian Village. We found a quaint small Bistro that had paninni sandwiches as a specialty. I had a turkey, creamed cheese, cranberry sauce and provolone cheese sandwich on ciabalta bread. It was very good. Their unsweetened iced tea was a bit 'different'. not exactly to my taste.

It is such a wonderful time with Pete's Mom and Al! They come down the hill to visit and we go up the hill for great meals together. Mark, Patty (Pete's sister) and their son Caleb were with us this evening.

We traveled 318 miles today.We traveled Interstate 84 by the Columbia River with breathtaking sceneryand then highway 97 through lots more mountainous terrain, but also some beautiful valleys.
Some items of interest along the way included:
the Columbia/Hood river...the Columbia Gorge...the Cascade Locks/Bonneville Dam...The Dalles Dam....the Stonehenge Memorial...Yakima Indian Reservation...Horse Heaven...

The Stonehenge Memorial in Maryhill, Washington was built by Sam Hill as a tribute to soldiers from Klickitat County, Washington who were killed in WWI. he constructed the site to remind us that "humanity is still being sacrificed to the god of war"

Horse Heaven is a HUGE area that has wild horses. In 2010, it was estimated that there were 12,000
wild horses on the Yakima Indian Reservation. . A comprehensive management program was developed and in 2010, thee had been 500 horses captured for sale.
