Grand Trolley Tour...Day 1

We drove into San Antonio, toured the Alamo and then bought a two day Grand Trolley Tour of the city. The Alamo grounds and buildings present a serene environment for visitors to contemplate 300 years of history. San Antonio and the Alamo played a critical role in the Texas Revolution in 1835.  in 1836, the Texans and Tejanos prpepared to defend the Alamo together. The defenders held out for thirteen days. They saw the Alamo was the key to the defense of Texas. They were ready to give their lives rather than surrender their position to General Santa Anna. Among those were Jim Bowie, renowned knife fighter and David Crockett, famed frontiersman and former congressmen from Tennessee. The final assault came before daybreak on March 6, 1836. There were defenders who lost their lives from various states, Ireland, England, Scotland and Germany.
Following his victory at the Alamo, President and General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna began persuing General Sam Houston's Texas army, while a second Mexican column defeated and massacred a Texas force at Goliad.
Near the San jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou, Houston's army reversed the surprise method of attack and defeated Santa Anna.
