The Cabot Trail

8-17-11 The Cabot Trail winds through stunning landscapes along the Margaree River and throught he rugged highlands if the Cape Breton Highlands National Park of Canada. The cabot Trail was named after John Cabot who reached these shores in 1497. The name also celebrates the meeting of the Cabot and the Mi'kmaq people, the original inhabitants of the Cape Breton Island, at Asby Bay over 500 years ago. Cabot Trail was completed in 1932 and is 300 Km (180 miles) of road that connects previously isolated communities and villages. We LOVED every mile of it. We boarded a small ferry in Englishtown and were actually on the trail when we unloaded off of the ferry (very convenient) As a result we rode counter clockwise which turned out to be the best in our opinion.
