Pilgrim settlers

We drove over to the canal and Scusset Beach. This was a quiet and serene place to be. I could not take enough pictures. We then traveled into the town of Sandwich, Massachusetts. This is such a neat town because of the age of the homes that are still in great condition. We visited the Hoxie House. This actually is the oldest house in the USA. It is a 1675 Cape Cod house of saltbox architecture. The Rev.John Smith and his wife and their 13 children lived in this house. It was purchased by retired whaling captain Abrham Hoxie in the 1850s and inhabited by his heirs until the 1950s. We then visited the Dexter Grist Mill.which was built in 1640 and is still in operation. We actually purchased 2 pounds of corn meal. We then found a neat Cafe/Bakery to have our MOD. I had a piece of quiche and a fresh fruit salad. Bruce had an egg salad sandwich and a fresh fruit salad. This was a good day of American History!!
