The Shepherd of the Hills historic Old Mill Theatre....the Sons of the Pioneers dinner theatre, Inspiration Tower

Today has been a very productive and enjoyable day on this road trip!!!! Laundry, Spa time included a shampoo and styling as well as a much needed complete manicure! Bruce went to Wal Mart early this morning for much needed groceries. We and the Creans went over to the Shepherd of the Hills dinner theatre and heard a concert by the Sons of the Pioneers. I listened to Roy Rogers sing with this group when I was a young girl. One of the present group worked with some of the originals because he has been with the group for 45 years!!! We learned that the name originated because the agent said they were too young to have been Pioneers of the West...he said they could be Sons of the Pioneers. This group has been designated as 'National Treasures" by the Smithsonian Institute. They have their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and have appeared in 98 movies with such stars as John Wayne (they sang at his funeral, 'Empty Saddle'), Gene Autry, Bing Crosby and 45 films with Roy Rogers! The atmosphere of the stage opened up, complete with tumbleweeds and cactus to mark the true nature of the old West. All decked out in their cowboy gear, the group treated us to songs such as 'Ghost Riders in the Sky' and 'Red River Valley' They mixed their music with comedy with a delicious Chuckwagon cowboy meal before the show. The original Sons of the Pioneers by Roy Rogers in 1934.

When sitting atop Inspiration Tower, one can see the surrounding Branson area as far as 95 miles into Arkansas. The Tower was built in 1989 as a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Harold bell wright's first visit to the Ozarks. it replaced a wooden structure that stood on the point from the 1920s until the 1940s. It is referred to as "Landmark on the Horizon". the structure is 230 feet tall and located on inspiration point in the shepherd of the Hills Homestead.

A wonderful day!!
