Custer State Park...Mount Coolidge Fire Tower

We and the Creans rode through the Custer State Park today. We had hoped to see some buffalo. However, the buffalo have moved away from the wildlife loop road due to so many motorcycles. Custer state Park is noted for its annual buffalo roundup, usually in September. Other points of interest are the Crazy Horse Memorial, the Cathedral Spires, the Harney Peak, the Needles and the Needle's Eye, Legion Lake area. We went to the Mount Coolidge Fire Tower and were able to see for miles. Such a panoramic opportunity to view these points of interest from afar.

Crazy Horse Memorial
The Crazy Horse Memorial is a monumental work in progress begun in1948 by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to honor Crazy Horse, a Lakota leader who refused to force his people onto reservations. The sculpoer died in 1982, but his family carries on his mission.

the Badlands

the  movie directed by Kevin Costner 'Dancing with the Wolves' was filmed in the Badlands National Park as well as the Black Hills. Some parts were filmed near Pierre and Rapid City, South Dakota. This is a favorite of mine and Bruce's. Its long lasting popularity gained Kevin Costner an honorary member of the Sioux Nation status. This was because of the positive impact it has made for the Native American population.
