Alpine Inn...motorcycles...Mount Rushmore

We and the Creans traveled to the Alpine Inn for a very nice meal of the day. Alpine Inn is located in Hill City, South Dakota. The area is full of wildlife (deer and Rocky Mountain Goats are just two examples. The Rocky Mountain Goat is white and shaggy. Our meal included a filet mignon, baked potato and a wedge of lettuce with ranch dressing. This IS their menu and very good food!! We had several choices for dessert and we chose the Apple Strudel with caramel sauce. The motorcycles were abundant...

we saw one but could not get a good picture
I found this one instead!!
Hill City is home to railroading history. The city was crossroads for the Burlington Northern and Black Hills Central rail lines. The Black Hills Central Railroad, aka the 1880 train, operates between Hill City and Keystone. As the old steam locomotive churns into the depot, pushing steam and breathing fire like an iron dragon, people line up for the two-hour ride. I was fortunate to get a picture!

We traveled on to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial and it is just a beautiful and amazing as before!! Mount Rushmore represents the history of America and evokes a distinctive significance  each visitor. Whether your personal meaning involves patriotism, inspiration, history or a renewed sense of civic unity, a visit to the park can inspire the personal connection between citizens and their country. Mount Rushmore is the sculpted faces of four of our nation's presidents. Each represents a meaningful aspect of America's heritage/formation. The carving dates are 1927-1941. There were 400 workers. The total cost was $989,992.32. It is named after Charles Rushmore. Gutson Borgium was the sculpter. Dynamite was the main tool. The Jackhammer was the drill. The rock is Harney Peak Granite. The Lakota word for "Black Hills" is 'Paha Sapa'. The trees are the Ponderosa Pine. The meaning of Mount Rushmore is Democracy. The question is posed...Why these Presidents?
Birth...first President...George Washington
Expansion...Louisiana Purchase...Thomas Jefferson
Development...Panama Canal, Trust Buster and National Parks...Theodore Roosevelt
