Aplets & Cotlets.......Rocky Reach Hydro Project

Pete and Jean graciously showed us around the area today. We visited a candy factory in Cashmere, Washington and took a tour. Of course, we had to purchase lots of goodies!!!
Introduced in 1920, Liberty Orchards Aplets & Cotlets have been best sellers ever since...The original recipe is still used based on the juices of crisp Washington apples and ripe apricots, slow -cooked to a smooth puree and then blended with English walnuts. Each box is evenly divided between Apple-Walnut (Aplets) and Apricot-Walnut (Cotlets) candies, which is rolled in powdered sugar and packed by hand..

Then we rode over from Wenatchee, Washington to:  the Rocky Reach Dam and Hydro Project

The RRHP is located in north central Washington state on the Columbia River, about seven miles upstream from the city of Wenatchee. By river, the dam is 215 miles below the Canadian border, and 473 miles above the mouth of the Columbia at Astoria, Oregon.
People throughout the northwest benefit from clean, renewable energy produced at Rocky Reach. This project is nationally known for efforts to protect the environment. A first of its kind juvenile fish bypass system was completed in 2003 to help young salmon and steelhead on their way to the ocean....Adult fish returning from the ocean have the benefit of fish ladders at both Rocky Reach and Rock Island hydro projects. These fish ladders were constructed to assist mature salmon and steelhead on their upriver journey to spawning grounds in the Columbia River and its tributaries....
At Rocky Reach , the fish ladder leads fish through a viewing area where visitors can "look the salmon in the eye". The fish are seasonal: Chinook...May and August, Sockeye...July and Steelhead...September.
