"God is love" NOT "Love is God"

1-27-2013 Bruce and I attended the church service on the TT peace River campground. There was a different minister and music director than last year. The service was opened with 'We have come into His house to worship Him'. Another praise song used was 'Soon and very Soon'. Both favorites of mine. The other music was like 'What a Friend We Have in Jesus' and 'How great Thou Art'. Two other favorites of mine. The minister's message was from 1 John 4:7-11. God is Love was the title of the message. Some points of his message was that 1. God's love is threaded through the Bible. 2. God's love is from beginning to the end...eternal. 3. We can know Christ's love in our hearts and can have peace and joy.
The commentary said things like 1. God's love always involves a choice and an action, and our lives should be more like His. How will you display your love for God in the choices you make and the actions you take? 2. "God is Love" not "Love is God" our world with its shallow and selfish view of love, has turned these words around and contaminated our understanding of love. The world thinks love is what makes you feel good, and is willing to sacrifice moral principles and other's rights in order to obtain such 'love" But that is not real love...just love's opposite....selfishness. We cannot apply to God the view of love propagated by an evil world. Our definition of love must come from God sho is holy, just and perfect! At the same time, if we truly know God, we must learn to love as he does.
