3-28-2012 Animal Kingdom is the last park built by WDW opening in 1998. Walt Disney was fascinated by the exotic, especially wild animals. Walt's childhood, on a farm, gave him thea passion for animals that never left. Walt Disney was interested in the natural behaviors of these animals in their natural habitat...not in a zoo like cage. So Animal Kingdom is the culmination of one of Walt Disney's greatest dreams that began in childhood on a Missouri farm.
We went to Animal Kingdom with Sue and David Vines this AM!! This is mine and Bruce's favorite park. We arrived very early and opened the park at 9AM.We walked through the African village of Harambe, heard the drums playing. We rode the first KilimanJaro Safari of the morning. This was a great time to see the animals moving. they were even crossing the street!!! This is an open-air safari vehicle that takes you on an exciting African-style savanna where we saw giraffes, elephants, ostrich, wild boars, rhinos, hippos, lion and lioness, etc roaming freely. We then walked the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail and saw the birds, ducks, fish, more hippos and gorillas. We then went to the Flights of Wonder and enjoyed seeing natural behaviors of all kinds of birds. I personally am partial to our great counry's national emblem, the bald eagle. We moved into Asia and walked the Maharajah Jungle Trek seeing the ruins of an ancient palace inhabited by exotic animals like giant fruit bats, Komodo dragons and tigers!! We had lunch at the Yak and Yeti Local Food Cafe. We enjoyed two egg rolls each and shared a serving of chicken fried rice. Wow! a great lunch in Asia.
We shopped and found a tee shirt to match and then for some post cards. We were both very tired, so we made it a morning.
We again went with the Vines to the park, Hollywood Studios. The afternoon parade was beginning and we enjoyed that alot. They had our reservations at the 50s Prime Time Cafe. This was a cafe focusing on the time that Walt Disney opened WDW. There were any kind of old TV that you could think of and clips from old shows being shown. We had a great meal. Bruce had meat loaf and I chose fried chicken. Sue and I walked around in the park some. She showed me the area representing New York.
I will now include pictures of Animal Kingdom (2011 and 2012). This was our first visit to Hollywood Studios.
