Saint Patrick's Day 2013

March 17, 2013 People get caught up in the partying, parades and drinking green beer to celebrate St Paddy's Day. It is truly a Christain Holiday in Ireland and is celebrated during Lent. St. Patrick was born in England in the late 4th century. He was captured by pirates at the age of sixteen and was brought to England and sold into slavery. His job was tending sheep.During his enslavement, he was called to Christainity and escaped his captors after six years. He returned to Ireland as a missionary and in his teachings, combined irish pagan beliefs with Christain sacrament, devising the Celtic Cross. He is annually honored on March 17. Throughout his missionary work, St. Patrick continued to promote the conversion of Ireland to christainity by electing Church officials, creating councils, founding monasteries and organizing Ireland dioceses.

We had been told by Richard and Helen Greene about Beach Road Chicken Dinner's restaurant. So, we decided to go there today because online their big day is Sunday lunch. We arrived shortly after 11:30 AM and that was a good time. We enjoyed fried chicken, creamy sweet peas, rice , mashed potatoes, cole slaw, gravy and biscuits served family style. This restaurant was established in the same location since 1939 when Atlantic Boulevard was the only accessible road to the beach. Thus, the name ,Beach Road Chicken Dinners. Back then, chickens were home grown and "take-out" was a novelty.

Happy St. Paddy's Day to everyone!!!
