Hurricane Sandy

10-28-2012  WOW! another hurricane hitting the Eastern US coast from Georgia to Maine. VERY concerned about Kelly's relatives and some of our friends in Delaware. We also have friends in Virginia who live full time in their RV that we are keeping touch with.
We went to Granny's Chicken Palace for lunch and learned as we were checking out that they are retiring and are closing permanently :(( The food is Great and we will miss it.
I spent the afternoon writing Christmas cards and got them finished! The weather is deteriorating.

What makes this hurricane So different is that it is colliding with a cold front. This is causing snow in the higher level of the Appalachian Mountains.

10-29-2012  We are having dreary weather here. it is snowing some but NO accumulation!! Cooking a pound of mixed beans in the crockpot. We had sausage and eggs for breakfast.  Washed two loads of clothes and cleaned all the dishes after eating the beans and tomatoes for our MOD.

The devastation along the eastern seaboard is terrible with wind and flooding damage. one neighborhood is reported as having been destroyed by fire (50 homes). Lake Erie waves up to 25 feet...a huge 700 ton tanker was brought to shore and ended up on front street on Saten Island...NYC under water ( the subway and bridges and the NY stock exchange closed)

We stayed in ALL day!!

10-30-2012  The sun tried to shine here but was soon replaced by clouds and we saw more snow. The vehicles were covered. The temperature is in the 30s. I have resumed my exercise program and today i did 3 1/2 miles. We both had spa time and then we went to Angelo's Pizzeria in waynesville. this is such good food. A large salad and a personal 6 inch personal pizza was plenty for our MOD.
Washed another load of clothes.
We have heard from Kelly's relatives (facebook) and they are fine. Bubba and Kelly and riley are good. Pete and Jean did not even have to move their RV from their site!!

Makes our few pictures of Jonathan's Creek SO insignificant and humbling to be out of harm's way. Brings us to our knees with prayers for those in harm's way.

Maggie Valley, NC/ The Battle of the Jug... WCU vs ASU

10-26-2012 Since the last blog, I have dealt with the back muscle spasms that finally went away with Physical Therapy treatments. YEAH!  I dealt with a positional vertigo, which the Physical Therapist knew how to treat, also. I went to the hygienist (an in and out visit for another six months). LOL  I told her about my toothache while in NY in June. An x ray showed that the tooth was abcessed. My dentist was available and did the root canal right then (an hour and twenty minutes). I dealt with lots of pain for 1 1/2 weeks. I was so tired of dealing with pain. I did get started on getting our house ready for Bubba, Kelly and Riley to visit in December. I began to do online shopping for Christmas gifts.
Bruce had his annual physical and his MD ordered thyroid medication to off set his low TSH. Hopefully, he will begin to feel more energy.

Today we traveled to I-40 exit #20 to Pride RV Resort on Jonathan's Creek near Maggie Valley, NC.

the drive over was pretty with the remaining fall colors

It is the most peaceful place (in our opinion) on this earth. We love it here. And it is pretty close to WCU. We will be attending the football game tomorrow between WCU and ASU.
We went to Ammons Drive in and Bruce had hotdogs and I had a cheeseburger!!!

10-27-2012  The Battle for the Old Mountain Jug 2012: Today is to be sunny and in the 60s...perfect for football. Buzz and Merilee arrived about 10:30 AM. We had a good time. the pictures below kind of tell the story for me!!

It is good to be home for awhile. Maybe my back will be better soon!!!

Tom Johnson's Barbecue

I have been delayed in keeping our blog updated due to lingering back muscle spasms. Hopefully, I can get the time at Tom Johnsons completed as will complete our summer and fall of 2012. Our bounder will be parked in Morganton most of the rest of the year.... heart be still

8-31-2012 took time to do some house cleaning during the AM. We welcomed Buzz to the camp!! Merilee will come after work. We shared cantaloupe to our MOD with the troops. The troops shared left overs for a 'Train Wreck' MOD!! So good to have Merilee and Buzz camping with us.

Yes, merilee  got up EARLY every AM and was to work as an elementary

Helen and Richard Greene
the leaders of the 'Morganton Mafia"
We watched lots of football...Gators beat Bowling Greene, ECU beat App!!!, Alabama beat Michigan and WCU got the socks beat off them.......We had Lasagna for our MOD, made by Merilee. Denise made salad, Nancy made green peas and I made a blueberry cobbler and seerved warm with vanilla ice cream.

9-2-2012  Bruce went to the grocery store for Chili fixins!! he got it going in the crockpot and the RV smelled so good ALL day.reading Lisa Jackson books. Rained some with very dark clouds but did not last long. All of the chili was eaten and the MOD was great as usual with cornbread, rice and cherry yum yum by Roxie Powell.

9-3-2012 Today was a day to rest in the AM and read. had a fairly good day with my back. our MOD was hamburgers and hotdogs, baked beans, cole slaw, chips and peach cobbler.

9-4-2012  Today was a trip to Morganton. I got my hair trimmed and colored!! about 1 1/2 inches shorter and she changed the color a bit!! LOVE it! ate lunch at Timberwoods and our MOD at Hollie's Deli......  the DNC began. Great keynote address by the Mayor of San Antonio and then the First Lady spoke, Michelle Obama. i was so fired up that i could not sleep. awake most of the night.
I support 77% of Obama reelection campaign issues. I have had a difficult time with the gay marriage( God's definition of marriage is clear that it is between one man and one woman) and extreme abortion issues (used for birth control and late term abortion for ANY reason). However, I support Obamacare, higher taxes for the rich (Mitt Romney paid a less percentage in federal income tax than Bruce and I did), and foreign policy (seems less war hungry), Social Security and Medicare. Abortion in the case of rape or incest should be the individual woman's decsion (hopefully with wise Christian council). Most of all, I personally feel after reading on several occasions that the Obama's faith is Christian based. There are MANY people who would be quick to debate that fact. President Obama said that he remembers well when he walked the aisle and gave his heart to the Lord. I accept anyone else's profession of faith, why should I not accept his?

9-5-2012   I was able to exercise this AM for 3 miles, swept and made stuffed mushrooms from Kelly's recipe. Another big meal under the canape with the troops. Steaks and potatoes!!, salad and dessert....Bobby and Roxie Powell's pomaranian, Missy, died. This was such a sad time for them as their dogs are their family.

9-6-2012  I again felt like exercising 3 miles. This was a lazy day for me. Bruce hunted for the Krusteas pancake mix . He and richard Greene cooked waffles and RT Boone cooked ham, bacon and sausage. YEAH for breakfast for supper....bruce and I listened to President Obama's speech.

9-7-2012  I have had alot of back pain today. We had another big meal with the troops. pinto beans and fried potatoes and onions by Denise and RT. Other dishes were crockpot macaroni and cheese, rutabegas, salad. corn and ccornbread with lemon (to die for) pound cake. to bed early tonight. It was very hot and finally cooled with a fan!!

9-8-2012  cleaned some in the RV. Bruce went to Morganton and got the refill of my muscle relaxant, so neither of us ate Tom's breakfast buffet. We ladies played Bingo and our 'group' had NO winners!......Bruce and I took lots of pictures. The evening barbecue meal was great. there were about 5000 people fed tonight.
