A # 10 day

We got up about 6:30 EST (7:30 AM Atlantic time) because we are expecting the mechanic first thing this AM. The temperature was in the 50s last night. excellent sleeping temp. The mechanic showed up about 8 AM EST. So glad that they followed through with sending him first thing this am! He put the computer check machine onto the RV and ALL it showed was a low level in the coolant. He went ahead and changed the smaller filter for Bruce. He advised bruce to always add coolant before traveling on after sitting for a few days. He charged bruce $100 and gave Bruce 2 containers of coolant. After all this was finished, we rode over and found the route to Hwy 1 West. we will need to go that way in the AM to St. Andrews. The streets in st. John's are torn up for repair so mbad that we wanted to make sure before we go in the big rig. We rested the rest of the day. I am reading a Lisa Jackson novel. I sat outside and read . It is in the 70s mid day! We ate left over spaghetti for our MOD.
Until next time.

Ferry ride to St. John's, New Brunswick

We got up this am at 4:30 AM EST to be sure that we were in line for the 7 AM EST ferry departure time. We enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise over the water. It is a good thing that we did because the computer at our check in station was not working and it took a LONG time to get processed. This ferry had a REAL bad odor in the bottom where we left the RV. We enjoyed a ride that is as good as it gets on the bay!! THANK God for answered prayers for that because motion sickness was a concern and we came through like CHAMPS. We even went to the cafeteria on our level and had a full breakfast about half way through the ride. It took about 3 hours for the ride from Digby,NS to St. John's, New Brunswick. Petie made the ride okay as well. He got up when i spoke to him and shook off and stretched. i feel for sure that he had slept the entire ride. It was dark where the RV was parked. Well, the perfect day kind of ends there. The RV check engine light came on as soon as Bruce cranked it up. Of course, that was unnerving to say the least. THEN
the lack of road signs in this country caused naigation problems getting to the campground. the GPS in the end got us there!!

Digby, Nova Scotia

Our campsite here at the digby campground
This AM was a very lazy morning. We did go over to the Mag Pyes Restaurant in Digby and have a sandwich for our MOD. we noted how different the tide was today than yesterday. This was unrelated to Irene, the hurricane. this is the way it is all of the time around the canadian maritimes. The low tide will allow you to walk the ocean floor and then the high tide will completely fill it up again. Two very extremes. We checked and the ferry will be going in the AM. We had wind gusts up to 90 mph last night but very little to no rain. Petie kept looking out of the window this am to see who was shaking our RV.

Digby, Nova Scotia

We traveled about 30 miles to Digby Campground. we were supposed to stay one night and then catch the ferry on tomorrow. Because of the possibility of rough waters due to the hurricane Irene, they postponed our ferry travel until Tuesday. Today, we set up and mad a Wal Mart run. then, we had our MOD at KFC. No, it was NOT as good as we are accustomed to, but hey, i needed some fried chicken. It has rained all night and most of the day. we are set up good and we are not under any trees!!  We will be here all day tomorrow, so we are going to the Mag Pyes Cafe for our MOD tomorrow!!!

Another destination made!!

Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia

we traveled a few miles in to Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. There we went to the Visitor's Center which was located at the Annapolis Tidal Generating Station. Built in 1984 as a demonstration plant, the ATGS is the only tidal generating station in North America and remains one of few in the world. At peak output the station generates enough power for 4,500 homes. We rode back into town and walked over to Ft. Anne historic site. It was amazing at the defense mechanisms they had when the French built this fort. (the huge dune like hills that hid the land activity and the tunnels that were used). we walked through the Historic gardens and then we had our MOD at the German Bakery and Cafe next door. our meal was Hungarian tomato soup and  Snitzel sandwich. A great day of exploring new places!!

Digby, Nova Scotia

today was a VERY laid back day. It poured rain ALL night so we were in no hurry to get out and about. We have had sunshine today and in the 80s. We traveled about 30 miles to the town of Digby which reminds me some of A Bay in NY. we found the ferry office and made a reservation for Monday. that ride over to New Brunswick will take 3 hours. we went down on the water front of Digby. we had a piece of pie at the May Pye House. the pie crust was absolutely the best i have ever eaten. we plan to go back thee for our MOD on Sunday. enjoyed taking more pictures of water and boats. Oh well, better enjoy before Irene hits!! we came back and this pm had meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green peas for our MOD today. we have finished 2 loads of laundry and that included bed linins!!! A good day!

News: hurricane Irene

we traveled 98 miles today and arrived in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia. we took hwy 12 across the island and saw a Ross farm and Museum along the way. We also saw a South Mountain Campground on hwy.12.which was BEAUTIFUL. the cabins appeared like teepees(A-framed). After we got onto 101, we saw a pasture of Llamas.  Arriving in Bridgetown, we rode thru the business part to get to the campground. gotta love the GPS. I cooked sausage and eggs for our MOD. we have to get rid of alot of stuff before we cross back over to the USA.

the Annapolis River is by the campground
thus the name for the CG

Wal Mart day

Bruce is ready for Irene????
we had a Wal Mart list and found a super one toward Halifax. we had our MOD at the Shore Club in walking distance from our RV. It was another lobster dinner. salad, mussels and lobster and dessert! we tried the mussels this time and honestly we both liked them. Bruce does not eat oysters. i told him that these mussels were better than oysters. He tried the mussels and liked them. we are packing up to hit the road again. We are watching the news about the hurricane, Irene. Bruce felt that he should get prepared, so he bought himself a new hat. the only picture for today is Bruce and his titanic stance in his new rain hat.

Peggy's Cove- again!!

today, we traveled to Peggy's Cove again and it is a #10 day for weather!! we had our picture taken in fron of the lighthouse again and we sat on a bench and marveled at another of God's masterpieces. we stopped at a Deli and Bakery and had a lobster roll for lunch. we sat outside and reminisced about high school friends when we returned to the RV. One of our class of 1968 died yesterday. RIP Jimmy Carico.
